Contemporary · 1947–1996 · Dera Ghazi Khan – Lahore
Mohsin Naqvi of Dera Ghazi Khan wrote a ghazal of glistening, wounded imagery and, in parallel, some of modern Urdu's most powerful devotional poetry on the house of the Prophet. Hugely popular at mushairas, he was assassinated in Lahore in 1996; his death fixed the elegiac note that had always run through his work.
